Toirano Ethnographic Museum

The museum is set up in the historic palace of Auctions. The architectural structure has different characteristics due to the structural and extension changes over time.
Today the building is owned by the Town of Toirano, used as a museum on three floors. The collection consists of objects and artefacts, concerning the ancient activities practiced in the Toirano area and in general in the Western Ligurian.
The first part of the ground floor and first floor is devoted to the sections on the local activities and historical aspects of Val Varatella.
The second part proposes the reconstruction of the aristocratic mansions, offering a general picture of the customs and customs of a Ligurian hinterland community.

The first group of museum collections was established in the 1980s, starting with a group of local volunteers gathering various objects related solely to olive cultivation. The initial collection remained until 1997 when the Municipality decided to restructure the building, expanding the collection with other objects, which over time came through a widespread awareness and involvement of the local population.
The spontaneous donations are the basis to enrich the collections, together with the oral and written testimonies which, from 1997 to this day, have been gathered in this facility, the guardian of the memories of a village that offers, in addition to the splendid tourist caves, a Medieval old town, which witnesses a rich history partially illustrated in the Museum.
