The naturalistic environment in which Santo Stefano d’Aveto is immersed is of unique beauty. A place to be enjoyed completely, even and perhaps especially in winter, thanks to the slopes and lifts of the ski area… A stone’s throw from the sea!
Already in the ’30s, dozens of skiers came from the coast to practice downhill skiing in the meadows and the snowy fields of Val d’Aveto: it was hard to get here on foot, then down to the village. In the 60s, the decisive turning point came when it was decided to build a ski system that would allow to go up to the top of Mount Bue: a basket cable car able to transport two people at a time on baskets up to the top of the mountain, passing through the intermediate station near Prato Cipolla. In addition, three ski lifts were built.
The ski resort became complete when a large refuge was built on Mount Bue to welcome tourists. For many years, Santo Stefano has been a winter destination due to its charm and its characteristic environment. Today, it is back to the splendour of the past and as always it will be ready to welcome every visitor.
