On May 1st, on Mount Varatella of Toirano, the traditional feast of St Peter takes place at the homonymous sanctuary.
St Peter’s Abbey was erected at the beginning of the 19th century and was donated, under Charlemagne’s will, to the Benedictine Monks.
The start of the procession with the crucifix, animated by songs and prayers, is scheduled for 6 o’clock in Dari. During the route, you will pass to important points such as the “Casa del Prato” (the Meadow House), “Pietra del Gallo” (the Rooster’s Stone) and “Burdunaira”.
Upon arrival at the mount, each participant receives the traditional bread of St Peter with a boiled egg.
The procession, upon arrival to St Peter, performs the traditional three rounds around the Abbey, singing the “Praise to Saint Peter at the Mount.” At 11 o’clock a mess closures the pilgrimage.
