Via Roma leads to the central square where the Collegiata dell’Assunta (Collegiate of the Assumption) is located, a large Romanesque-Gothic church with three naves, restored in the 16th century and reduced to a single hall in the 18th century. The lower part of the bell tower and the ogival gate inserted in the façade in 1837 are those of the original building. Inside, there are many important works of art, including a canvas depicting the Madonna with the Saints by Luca Cambiaso, two tables depicting the Piety and Saint James the Greater dating back to the early fifteenth century, a painting on a gilded background representing the Baptism of Jesus by Taddeo di Bartolo in 1397. Underneath the collegiate floor there is the old oratory of Saint Joseph the Baptist, place of gathering and prayer of the Confraternity of Disciplinants. To the right of the collegiate, connected to it, we find the oratory of Saint Joseph the Baptist, built in the seventeenth century, erected on twelve pillars that raise it to the level of the square. Inside it there is a wooden statue of the Baptist, by Anton Maria Maragliano.
