An interesting ring excursion to discover the geological phenomena that have shaped and characterized the Western Liguria territory. Crossing uncontaminated territories, you reach the hydrothermal springs, which highlight the exceptional characteristics of an area, today candidate to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From the medieval village of Pigna, take the old mule track to the ruins of the Church of St Antony (Chiesa di Sant’Antonio) and the baroque sanctuary of the Madonna di Passoscio. In this first part of the itinerary, the olive groves give way to a dense undergrowth of conifers and oaks that overlooks the valley of the Campali stream. Continue over the stone bridge of Bausson to reach Passo Bausson. Precisely from here you can see the immense fault, from which the valley originated.
The itinerary continues up to the Gola di Gouta Refuge, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view and refresh yourself with the delicacies prepared by the cooks of the refuge. From the refuge a steep descent leads back to Pigna, giving ample views over the villages of Pigna.
For the excursion, it is advisable to wear waterproof mountain boots, jacket, long trousers, t-shirt, remembering to bring one extra pair of socks, 1.5 l of water at least and a hat.
