Built in 1151 by the Counts of Ventimiglia, the Doria’s Castle has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. The original feudal system, defended at the end of the thirteenth century by the circular tower, was enlarged and included within a broader wall with imposing defensive devices. After having faced numerous siege attempts, in 1744, it was partially destroyed by the artillerymen of the French-Spanish troops during the period of the Austrian succession war. Today, it has been restored and it is possible to visit it through a specially designed path to show the most relevant historical aspects.
