The parish church of the Purification of Virgin Mary (Purificazione di Maria Vergine) is located in the heart of the historic centre, in front of the main square, called Torraccaeretta in the Middle Ages and restored several times over the time, today it appears in Baroque style with a neo-Romanesque façade. The gates, located at the sides of the building, were created by Giovanni Viale, and the rose window positioned above the main entrance gate depicts a scene related to the Purification of Virgin Mary and the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple, created with the mosaic technique. Also the two large glass windows positioned on the façade, showing representations of Saint Luis and Saint Agnes, are of great artistic value.
The interior consists of three naves, divided in two rows with four pillars each. Here, inside the vaults, in 1904, painter Leonida Martini frescoed floral patterns and images of saints. The bell tower of the church is peculiar: it was obtained by incorporating the ancient square tower of the Castle of the Lizard located next to it, on top of which a bicycle was placed, a contemporary artwork created by Sergio Bianco in 2000 to symbolize the power of non-gravity.
