In Balestrino, on the heights of the Western Liguria, St Joseph is celebrated, welcoming the imminent spring, with a typical village event: the bonfire of St Joseph.
The bells of the church, at the end of the evening of March 19, announce the feast and the Mass celebration that concludes with the short religious procession in the village, following the statue of the Saint, carried by the believers.
Then the whole village at sunset gathers to illuminate the night with a great bonfire of brush and branches collected during the first cleaning of the land, in view of the beautiful season.
A ritual gathering religion to popular peasant tradition, bringing together young and old inhabitants around the fire.
You eat, chat, play and sing in honour of St Joseph and enjoy one of the first outdoor evenings, hoping for a positive year for everyone.
